Sierra sucks ass for cancelling it. The only good thing about it is that now I own the special edition ITF watch and mousepad.

You can sell the mousepad for about $20, I think

AFAIK know, Sierra was going bust and decided to cancel their most expensive ongoing project. I think most of the staff from ITF work for codemasters, who have no interest in resurrecting the game.

On the other hand...most of the money had been spent and the game was closing in on release status. The team tried to resurrect the game several times...but failed to do so.

Well, what I know is from a PC Gamer article from July on dead games, which had ITf in it - this is the (relevant bit of)article;

(quote)

"
Description
Ooh, Babylon 5. always more of cult classic than a classic, with lots of dark storylines, themes nicked from Blake's 7 and CGI effects used by Amiga zealots to bolster their belief that the machine wasn't dead. The game of the show planned to focus on space combat, with over 100 missions, a realistic flight model, loads of ships to fly and shoot at, and music from the shows' compose. About 70% of the game was done, then Sierra started having money troubles. this was first against the wall.

What went wrong?
Sierra closed down Yosemite (developers) and B5: Into the Fire went with it, but there's still hopes that it will resurface. Codemasters employed many members of the team, and b5 die-hards are convinced that they'll buy up all the games assets and the b5 licence in order to finish and release it. Alas, we spoke to Codemasters and they didn't seem remotely interested...

The way I see it, I'm glad sierra ditched the project. I saw all their screenshots, and I wasn't impressed. Especially if you compare those shots to TBP, BUDA-5 2.0, and IFH. I'd much rather have the variety of excellent mods available than a halfway decent game made on a budget and a deadline.

Real fans > corporate weenies out to make a buck.

Hmm... I wonder when people starts realizing that graphics ain't everything what matters. It's the content.

Look at System Shock 1 these days. Looks like turd but I still play it because:

1) It's fun
2) It's addictive
3) It's far more interesting than most games these days
4) Made by gamers for gamers.

The same thing applies to Deus Ex (if we take one quite new game), Duke Nukem 3D, X-Wing/Tie-Fighter etc.

And when taking notice that B5:ItF is now... what? 4 years old? Back then it looked fabulous, nowadays the technology has again moved forward. We are used to see delights like Pixel Shaders, Curved Surfaces, Bump-maps etc.

What ItF contained was a living universe. You could just decide that, hey I want to go to Centauri to blow some Vorchans and you could do that but it had some dire consequences.

If B5:ItF would be updated to suffice these days graphical elements. I'd say that we'd be dropping our jaws off and when combining that to new Franke's score and video clips featuring the cast of Babylon 5. It would have been a game to live up to.
