The only reason I came it to drop props for a game I still play for some odd reason Hopefully we get a chance to peep RF2 on PC :-D

A more fitting tool would have been a Pick-Axe. You have failed me Picoo. But don't feel too bad, Orange has failed me more than once...

Too bad about the support. There could have been a lot of mods for RF if we got any. Now there are as many as ... none! (Oh forgot the HIVE mod) If it´s because of THQ then spank them hard.

I talked to a few of the peeps.....got some of my questions answered.....some of my questions were not answered. And I couldn't get a tour either.....but I understand why. Please don't read too much into my post.....It's not like I learned the "Dark Secrets of Volition."

I learned enough to quit bitching about stuff Volition can't change, and while my optimism for RF2 has returned, I'm not holding my breath.

Damn.....that's what my visit was missing.....alcohol! And luckily.....my Texas plates were not a cop magnet!

Education is key. If people would just take the time to read a little bit more into the situation, we wouldn't have so many problems. Volition understands the fan's gripes, but unfortunately they just don't have the resources to do a lot about them.

Heh, and you think Texas plates are a cop magnet? Me and my buddy just got back a few weeks ago from driving my cousin's brand new car from California to Ohio and all it had were the cali temp tags (which is just a small copy of the registration taped to the front windshield!).

LMAO.....how many time were you pulled over?

I'm proud to say I was pulled over 0 times.....There's a reason I put the "My Daughter Loves Girl Scouts " bumper sticker on the back of my truck!

Ce, I only get so argggg from all the negative sayings. So when you came back with that they are only human story and added a good solution for getting what we want but lets ask it nice for a change. Maybe even help out.. That is story i'm spreading around.

Posted by ktwiles on 07-17-2002 01:54 AM:

Those are nice thoughts Claire. Another important thing is to maintain perspective on what we ask for too. Look at the things people asked for in RF 1 that weren't there: USB support, pain skins, more multiplay modes, cheats, etc. Those are realistic things that we could probably convince a developer and publisher of including in a game. As it stands, I think V has already said there is tons of new multiplayer stuff and unlockable content.

Stuff like on-line support falls into the other category. Sony doesn't even have a proven on-line strategy for the PS2, and I've already seen some people ask (not rudely, though, and also not here) why RF2 doesn't plan to have on-line play. No matter how nicely we ask them for on-line, I doubt we'll get it before RF3

No plates are cop magnets here. I was driving around on expired TN plates for over 6 months and never got stopped

Do you guys believe that Volition would just drop support of a game like Red Faction? Obviously you do...but I think its time someone dropped a hint of doubt into your minds. Perhaps your anger is misplaced....and perhaps a combination of factors lead to the state that things are at now.

O we got a patch, dont you remember?

changes without actually running a mod.

Whew...im glad that got fixed. That could have been a heck of a problem.

Now for all you "smart" people that say to quit bitchin to [V]. Just out of curiosity, how many of you were on the VBB? The Volition Bulletin Board, for those of you that werent there. It was a bulletin board with a section for Red Faction that was put there for general talk, help and support on the game. I was there since about the begining of November, a little while after I purchased the game. I think it is safe to say, and I am sure others can support me, that Volition was very seldom there for support. If there was a problem, the community on the board always answered it or at least tried. The only time [V] would show its authority would be to close a thread or make a comment. When the cheating started to become a real problem, the community made its point to [V] that another patch would be nice. The response from [V]:
quote:
...nothing...
Everything and everyone was pleasent in the begining. We kept passing ideas and we kept asking about and update. But still nothing from [V], not a word. Even emails from the communty were being answered by pointless gibberish. What started out as just simple questions with no answers soon turned into arguments to why we wouldnt get an answer. No matter what [V] wouldnt comment on anything about the problems. After a while everyone seemed to have lost their patience because [V] was not involved with their game at all and it need attention very bad as you can all still see. After many threads and disscssions complaining to [V] that we needed a patch bad, a major thread consisting of over 300 posts from people asking for a patch and trying to get answers was deleted by [V] and the topic starter was banned from the forum, along with others. Soon after that they (THQ at that) announced that the board was going to be shut down so they could have more time to work on other projects. We asked a final time if there was any plan to update the game, but still we got absolutly no response from [V] except a 500 second post wait. The Red Faction community didnt take this very well and really showed disgust. Many others just realized this was the last straw for [V]s crap and they picked up and left Red Faction for good, shutting down their servers and stopping the updates to their websites.

We asked nice in the begining but [V] just shut us out and ignored us. It may be true that it was out of their hands and they couldnt do anything. But what is so hard about letting us know. Saying "Sorry we dont have the resources to make an effective patch." What the hell is so hard to let us know what is going on with the game that we payed for and might I add, still playing supportless, so that we can know. Im happy for you people that can look at them with good intentions but for them taking this "tight bussiness" approach and ignoring its customers questions and responding in childish ways and drop support on it when it most needed it, I cant. And if you say the support has not been dropped, then someone from Volition or THQ better leave a post here with what their general plans are for Red Faction.

I think Red Faction was one of the greatest games and I think thats why many people like myself are still hanging in here to play it again and again. And thats why we, the community, are developing a patching system of our own to try and save the last life of the game. It had a lot of potential with the new and only geo-mod engine out. Its a one of a kind type of game that just keeps drawing me back but it has been hurt severely. Could you just imagine what the game would be like today if the cheating issue was not there. I have often thought about this and I think it would be huge. There were so many great players involved in the game and thats what made it so good. Now most of them are gone and we are left with a large void filled with paranoia, mis judging and down right stupidness.

When you have a forum of you own (maybe you do) you can do what you want.

I just don't like leechers, and people that don't contribute.

I find that if you force them to register...it filters out the ppl that just wanna spam or ask one silly question...to the people that actually care.

Now I think if you cared about the info about this developing of the patch enuf, then you could take maybe 2 minutes out of your life to sign-up.

I cared enough to click that link and read up about it but since I can't even do that I don't really give a damn. I'm not going to waste my time registering only to read one thread nor should I have to but then, it's your board, your rules.

Sadly, this is how a lot of businesses work these days. If they can't deliver something, they're not going to admit it since it costs them sales. I don't know off the top of my head how long [V] has been a part of THQ, but I know that they used to be independent and were a lot more visible during the FreeSpace days. FreeSpace 1 had a lot of problems, I think it had like what 6 patches? But those patches came, and we could get on the forums and talk about it with the developers. Now [V] is a part of THQ, a publicly traded company (I can't remember their stock ticker symbol). So everything they say and do they have to watch carefully because it affects their stock price and that's a huge part of their bottom line. It pisses me off as a game owner that when they can't patch they won't say it, but I see why they do it. It just makes you aware that at the end of the day, gaming is still a business and not just about fun.

Oh well. At least they're not Enron. Or Worldcom. Or Xerox.

I think demanding and knowing better is a thing you do when your 12/13 but some older and wiser you know that you have to accept things as the are... and bitching doesn't do the trick.

So lets do what CeCe says...be nice to them and be surportive. Then we (ppl who wanna have RF2 for PC) have the best change of really getting it!

Look at me I do my friendly waving to them here.

um um um wrong helemal verkeert.. neit goed... eeeeer!

Well there you go. My theory works. People that aren't going to contribute something, and are just gonna come by to read one thing, don't register. There you go.
