Was your system's specs any different from Talyn's? I have a new computer that also has XP Pro on it, but I haven't installed anything on it yet.

EArcher, perhaps you need to have your user profile set as an administrator before you can install it. I installed and ran it as an Admin and it will work, albeit with a strange slowdown on the loadout screens (I have a Duron 1200 with 640MB RAM, why is there slowdown?). I don't think that I used compatibility modes, but I cannot check as I am away from home. I didn't need to patch it, as far as I can remember.
The screen resolution and colour depth shouldn't affect it either, Brando - I use 1280x1024@32 bpp.
If all else fails, perhaps a good dose of the Norton Utilities would fix it, but that is highly unlikely.

And Talyn, FS1 will not run on my XP Pro setup either - I can use all the setup tabs on the launcher, but when I try to play, it refuses to start, the same problem that you have with no setup done. No amount of patching or compatibility fix tweaking will fix it.
I too have a meaty system spec. -
AMD Duron 1200
640 MB of 133MHz SDRAM
ATI Radeon 7200, with 32MB DDR
SB Live Player 1024
Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback Pro (the original and best)
One 60 Gb HDD and one 40Gb HDD, each at ATA-100
Dual Boot - XP PRO on the 60Gb and 98 SE on the 40 Gb (that is what I run FS1, Descent 3 and a lot of other games on)

Do you have the FS1 1.06 patch installed under Windows XP? Thats solved a lot of peoples FS1 XP compatibility problems.

My whole point is that I have had absolutely no problems at all. This means that WinXP itself is not the culprit and the problem oviously lies elsewhere

Thats what I forgot to mention: I'm the same, I've never had any issues getting either FS1 or 2 running under XP Pro. Of course, installaing the patches as a matter of due course probably helps a lot there...

I think that I've tried all the patches, but I'll give it a go again with the 1.06 patch, Admiral LSD. And if that fails, then I've still got 98 to fall back on.

It's NOT the Win XP Pro itself! As already said it will be caused by any other item

- IRQ conflict
- Creative and AMD/VIA chipset (so it's Creative!)
and if not the old procedure beginning with
VIA 4in1, ATI drivers, DirectX and the order of having installed them, sorry, correct order is: VIA 4in1 (not ver 440, it sometimes is inducing troubles, ver 438 is running smooth), then Directx, then VGA-drivers...
or was there another VGA-Card or Mainboard on the SAME installation? .........
