We're trying to keep this info from people as to make the game stay fun. If this info was widespread it'd be unpleasent for everyone.

Hmm, could you please explain to me how I am wrong? You say I am right, the info is available, but then you talk about bombs and your heroic efforts to keep Red Faction, the dead, modded to oblivion, abandoned game, fun? Give me a break.

First of all, monger, if a guy asked me how to build a bomb, I would say, "There is a chemsitry book, check it out." Cause knowing how to build a bomb, and actually building them are seperate things. Since when do you get to decide what knowledge is incriminating and what knowledge isn't?

I have fun with this game all the time cause I make maps and I play with friends. We run a server and ban cheaters ip's or names. I don't care if a person figures out how to use ascii, it's the people, not the information, that you should be trying to conceal, hide, shun, whatever.

what you are saying is that we might as well post how to cheat in multiplayer rf too. I mean that is just common knowledge right. I mean if your smart enough then you know these things. or you can figure them out. So.. according to your way of thinking we should or could just post modding info next to the hex info. feed the fire so to say.
I mean its like this..
the regular tom joe **** or harry will not use a mod or a hex or anything like that unless its actually given to him or served to him. which is what you have done by posting it in a public forum.
so now the regular guy thinks.. hey cool.. and you have a bunch of peeps running around with thier heads stuck up thier arses..

and as far as hunter goes.. he was merely using these bombs etc.etc. as a way to try and explain to you people that you opened another one of pandoras boxes!!!

You cant ban someone with special characers from rcon, only from the server window.

Really folks, learn to handle yourself on a comp, or don't use one. Information is freely given and taken, so why don't you do a bit of reading up on ip bans? It's that easy. I do it all the time.

And if you would have actually read my post, I said I am admin on 3 servers, I didnt say I run 3 servers. I know my rcon commands and you cant ban_ip with rcon. If I had access to IPs then I wouldnt be here bitching. And thats nice that you do it all the time, but try managing a server with rcon, its a little different.

The point is a dedicated server cannot have an active admin 24/7 so he gives trustworthy players rcon 2 keep out the filth. These ASCII codes make rcon obsolete. The best we can do with rcon is change the level and hope the cheat who just fired 100 fusion's in your direction doesn't have it. How would you feel if you could no longer kick by ip. Unless you are a modder yourself you must see how much they kill the game. We know volition doesn't care but why do you have two make it worse by spreading this information letting the cheaters have freedom to play in the non-cheaters servers.

If there is a way to ban the people using ASCII with rcon please tell us. Otherwise remove this topic.

The fact that they are not deleting this post becouse it is generating talk and posts and life in this part of their forum for the first time ever since its creation. There has been more posts and visits here in the last 2 days then in the last 2 weeks. And that my good sir is why they do not want to delete this post.
They do care of the out come or the fact that it will hurt players with rcon out there. They do not care that it will give this info to players that werent even looking for it. They do not care that they do not care!!
They simply know that now today and yesterday they have new members and this post gradually growing.
THIS UNRESPONSIBLE BEHAVIOUR OF CARELESSNESS IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE WHAT EVER IT IS THAT THEY HOPE TO ACHIEVE IS UNEXCEPTABLE AND IS AS BAD AS BANING THE COMPETITION RATHER THEN PLAYING THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway, really, they aren't deleting the post because it's not violating any rules, and that would be hypocrisy. That means doing and saying two different things, for all you clan members out there. The server admins are the only ones keeping this game alive.
No servers = No place to play. I personally, as a server admin, hate seeing my bandwith going to a damn modder. All the other forums Ive visited will delete topics with questions such as these, or at least tell them to search elsewhere, but to have a forum administrator tell the person how to effectively bypass ways to be removed from a server (not that that was what he was going to use it for, but we just dont know do we?) is just plain wrong. The correct response should have been to say that info is available elsewhere. The majority of Red Faction users out there use ascii characters just to prevent thier easy removal from a server. By blantanly posting the instructions on how to do this in a public forum for Red Faction is akin to posting how to cheat.

This is Volition Watch's board. That means its mine, Alphakiller's, Remora's, Dynamo's and its Orange's board and I can be more specific about who actually bought the forum script that this runs on (but thats not the point). That means that we are effectively in control of our own board and we can moderate it, run it, and do with it as we please within the rules and guidelines set forth to us by our host. None of which im aware of were broken in this or any other instance.

Obviously this place entertains you enough to come but understand that you don't have to be here. We are not subjugating you to this discussion area or this forum. If you don't like the moderation, the discussion, or the traffic here (which still seems to be your major gripe vettinit) then you can move on.

Finally, this thread is closed...not because of the original content but because of the behaviour of subsequent posts. Some good discussion was brought about concerning the difficulties of admining RF games but you'll have to take that to a new thread.
