That's what we have done. Aft heavy pulse batteries will be same as forward ones, but don't you worry. We have things balanced very nicely.

I am sure that it depends largely of how many Novas survived the war, and if it was worth of time and resources to upgrade them. Some may have been upgraded, but we don't know for sure. EA quickly began building of Omegas after the war ended, and most of the resources were transferred for shipyards for building Omegas, because most of the heavy capital ships were destroyed in the war, and EA become a good target of pirates and marauders and possibly a hostile race.

Nova's don't equip beam weaponry as standard in the MOD but you can arm them with beams if you'd like to in a particular mission. As far as I know, there are four or five Nova's that survived the war. Any that were in construction at the time were quickly converted to Omega class destroyers instead. The designs are so similar that the change was probably very easy.

Yeah! Like I did in Tale of EAS Janus, the Narn beam weapons... Yum!
But weren´t there more surviving Novas? I´m not sure, but somewhere read: "There were about 25 surviving Nova after Battle of the Line", But survived Nova served EA 3-4 moths after Battle of the Line, until they were upgrated to Omega.

Novas were still in use in the time of B5, just watch the episode "GROPOS" where the EAS Schwarzkopf is seen. Also, according to AoG all later versions of Novas had their pulse cannons upgraded so they could fire beams as well as pulses (each beam was less powerful than the Midwinter beams though).

Yeah, I know Triggy that Novas kept serving EA a long time, because they were still good battle ships, but survived Novas were upgrade to Omega (survived from BotL).

Only the Nova's inconstruction were converted to Omegas. Surivivng operational Novas were NOT converted to Omegas. The cost of refitting an already complete ship would far outweigh building a new one.

The EAS Schwartzkopf from the episode GROPOS and Point of no Return is a prime example of a Nova class still in operation.

Yes. So they still use Novas till those fall apart.

If we go by GROPOS, it seems that since the introduction of the Omega, Nova's were moved into the planetary assault, and support role. That way their obvious problems in engaging capital ships would not be a major factor.

Also, when people mention all the marines a Nova can carry based on GROPOS, they seem to forget about the SIX troop transports that jumped in with the Schwartzkopf.

True, there were six ships that jumped in, but those things were small compared to the Nova.

Of course, the only downside with using the Novas as planetary assault vessels is that they suck at that too. That's one of the reasons why the Warlock has it's missile payload and the GOD beams on it (I know there are many other reasons as well). Novas were just about obsolete in the Minbari war but of course obsolete ships can still fulfill a roll of fleet support if not a direct assault.

The transports were probably, thin hulled, lightly armed, tin cans with al te design energy put into a maximum of capacity. I suppose it's also possible tha certain Novas were modified t carry more troops.

As for being obsolete during the war, everyting we had was, especially to the Minbari.

I read somewhere that Matok was one of the reasons the Warlock was put on the drawing board. One of them could have just flattened the place from orbit.
"Impregnable fortress? What impgregnable fortress?" BZZZAAAP!
