-- Addtional Starfury weapons (https://volitionwatch.game-warden.com/vwbb/showthread.php?threadid=5530)

Anyone that's ever played Combat Flight Sim 2 can tell you that in WW2, those turrets did jack **** to interceptors. Torpedo Squadron 8 at Midway found that one out the hard way. (Why yes I do fly a Zero in that engagement-do you think I've got a deathwish or something?)

In the EA civil war mission with the 5 Novas and 2 Hyperions I've noticed that by taking out a few enemy turrets on the Novas lets your Navas get through with a LOT less damage.

Which was one of my intentions with the mission

The problem with the rear turret on the Badger, apart of being ugly that is , is that the weapons on the Fury are fixed so they can only fire forward. To have the rear gunner actually do anything he must have a target in a direct line of sight at the precise moment so the weapons hit their target. Since the rear gunner can't reorient his targetting or make course corrections to aim like the pilot, the rear turret is pretty much useless.

It'll fire like a FS2 bomber turret, yup.

The 30mm rear turret may be weak, but I wouldn't call it useless. They provide a decent distraction/deterrent to potential threats.

The strength of the weapon is not in question. Its usefulness is though. The rear turret can only fire directly backwards, unless the chasing target is flying directly behind the Badger and both ships are flying in a straight line, the rear turret won't be able to hit it. Also the gunner can't make any corrections to this since the cannons can't be aimed nor can the gunner move the ship into position to hit it. Since no one flies in a direct line and no one attacks directly from behind either added to the movement restriction of the turret, it actually is pretty much useless.

Nevertheless the Badger as it was designed is perfectly canon and thus has it been made for the mod.

Um, from what little time I've had flying a Badger and flying against them, I think that the rear turret can target objects that aren't in the direct line-of-sight you're talking about. I dunno if that's canon or not, but from a gameplay POV it makes more sense.

Its fires at anything in the rear (that is targeted - so using an external view could be useful). Its a good 60-80 degree arc...directly astern.

Yup, again gameplay is much more important that trying to stay true to something in the show that we're not even certain about anyway. It makes sense that even in the show this "turret" arrangement would be the case because how else could the rear gunner target?

He doesn't target that's my point. But anyways I see no problem in altering this a bit for gameplay's sake. I still prefer the regular Aurora though.
