those with NTL get a very good service.. you get the cheapest Adsl (which is actually faster than dsl, the A standing for advanced) in the uk IIRC, and if you can't afford that, you can get 100% free net access through modem.

Sure, BT/Sky tend to be cheaper with high levels of use and/or you want lots of subscription channels.

Actually NTL only supply cable internet access,
My friend has cable through NTL, and actually downloaded TBP for me, as after one and a half hours I'd only managed to download about 26MB of the main package. He downloaded the main, voice and animation packages and burned them to a CD for me in just over an hour... total!

I think neimad was referring to the fact that ntl don't supply ADSL.

they do.. that's "cable internet access", but they also supply dialup.. I was wrong with what A meant in ADSL..

Triggy was correct; I was refering to broadband technologies only, not dial-up.
And without wanting to sound too "standoffish", cable and DSL are completely different technologies. DSL uses standard copper phone lines, while cable uses fibre-optic cables, so saying that NTL offer ADSL (or any variety of DSL) would be incorrect.

you right, me wrong
but NTL do supply dialup. I should know cause I'm using it right now.

I'm using something called WDSL - Wireless DSL. I have an aerial on my roof. It requires line of sight to the transmiter about 2 miles away. It's a UK based service called Tele2.co.uk. I can download things from the net at about 150 KB/s. For example - I downloaded the core files for TBP in 4 mins! AND I'm paying less than people using BTOpenworld do.
I believe that Tele2 normally only supply business's but they are selling their excess bandwidth to home users when office hours are over.
The contention on this connection is very low so we get most of their bandwidth. Which is nice.
So...
I take it no-one can email me JUST those files?

~o~ Hehe I gotta medal
Use a program like getright and start downloading or walk away for a few hours and it should be nearly finished. That what I did as I've only got a 56k modem that pulls around 4.5-5 KB/s...

Yeah, and if possible try downloading at times when internet traffic will be lightest like at night. If you've got one of those ISP's that kicks you off if you're idle you may have to stay up late and babysit it, but in my opinion it's well worth it.
