Now where's the damn (p)review?

Seriously, I think I made quite clear that the physics model being what it is, is not the Team's fault. Nor can anyone judge mission scripting, let alone campaign scripting and storytelling from a demo.

I did disagree on one point, though. I guess you guys will see it soon, and then we can have a nice flamewar.

You mean the stealth?

All:
As you see I get permission but it can take day or two because that damn "real life".

And oh, FYI: 10+ as a school grade means A+

It's not a score or anything, just a figure of speech. Our scoring goes from 1-100 (or as some would say, from 60-100 because nobody bothers to review trash worth less than 60 ;-)

Couldn't you submit the translation as an English essay?

Yeah, yeah, take it easy.

Yes, I was nitpicking about the absence of Minbari stealth technology. But as we already discussed, Freespace 2 engine doesn't support stealth tech properly. So the complaint was uncalled for.

Still gonna try those totally radar invisible Nials (although that's hardly "realistic") just for the hell of it.

We have to choose essay topics from our book. But essay is lot of easier to do because it's only few hundred words. Your review is about 750. Then there is also that damn swedish essay

True, Minbari stealth is absent; then again, it's hard enough fighting Nials in an Aurora even when you can target them ... I don't know, but I imagine TBP chose to allow them to be targeted for gameplay's sake...Ice would know.

I think it's for gameplay. Buda tested it when they were making Earth-Minbari war but it was too difficult.

why do topics always get off-track so fast?

Because people post replies with no relevant content in them?
C'mon, you should know that.

Yup, Buda guys stated so when I was reviewing their EMW campaign. I'd still want to try it out. As with Freespace 2 engine, the I-War engine did not support any stealth characteristics to speak of.

I don't mean totally radar invisible Minbaris. What I would see as "realistic" would be a delayed or nonexistent lock-on, severely limited radar range detecting Minbari at all, and perhaps a "scrambled" radar signature until up close (dogfight distance).

But I heard this is not feasible without tampering with the source code, so I guess there's nothing you can do about it. Just like Buda :-( I am sorry for complaining about it before I knew that it is not possible to mod.

Anyway, I'm in bronchitis right now, and the guy (sorry I tend to forget names in 39 centigrade fever) wanted (or offered) me to check the translation before posting sometime later today. I'll do that if I can get up... off to sleep now.

Hey, would it be possible to make a nebula that is not a nebula? I mean that it would look absolutely normal, no clouds anywhere, but you could limit the radar range. Would that be possible?

Posted by Starkiller on 11-20-2001 02:21 PM:

I don't think that is possible, and if it is possible, I think it wouldn't look nice...

What do you mean it wouldn't look nice? Don't you think normal space looks nice?

What I meant was, that if it would be possible to make a nebula, that looks absolutely the same as normal space. Then you could simply put that in a mission, and limit radar range.

I should read these forums more often. Yes, there was no stealth on the Minbari, mostly for gameplay sake.

We could do a "invisible" tag which has the shifty radar signature but to do it on every single Minbari fighter that shows up and make sure that it doesn't break itself would be pretty much murder. Its not really what everyone was looking for anyways.

With the demo missions, they were designed mostly so that the Nials had an abundance of targets and they weren't chasing after you and your wingmen all the time. If we had balanced the missions differently, you could probably kiss your StarFury goodbye because they would outmanuver and destroy you.

We thought it was hard enough

Fine, now he's sleeping. Someone have to wake him if you want your review.

Review is ready. So now I only need a place to put the file.

Posted by Warlord on 11-20-2001 07:14 PM:

So, file is online. You can get it from here:

geocities.com/juhah84/TBP_Review.doc

I come back in few hours to see comments if there's any.

EDIT: Use right click- save file. geocities won't show file otherwise.
