yes Fenris is now a legitamate threat.

More legitimate than before anyways.
It WAS a threat when it was first produced during the T-V war...but that means its 40 years out of date by FS2. They knew even at that time that its armor plating was weak, but that gave it the speed they needed. The Leviathan was developed for defensive purposes and had the increased armor.

HEY 30 Fenrises BEATS the Cr@ppula out of a Sathana and the fenrises ar rougly 10% the mass of the Sathana EVEN if they attack head on where the Sathanas main beam weapons are the Fenrises still win
Phear Fenris

But thats 30 Fenris....its probably still cheaper to make several large vessels than 30 Fenris.

It's not so much to crew them though. The Orion has a crew of 10,000. The Colossus, as I recall, had a crew of 30,000.
A Fenris has a crew of 300. I think. Multiply that by 30 and you get 300 X 10 = 3000 X 3 = 9000.
That's less than one Orion! True it probably costs more in materials, but crew are always the most expensive part of anyhing.
Even if a Fenris fits 1000 people (hah! I know it's bigger than a Nimitz, but hah!) it totals 30,000 anyhoo.

Hmmm building the colossus took what 30 years as I recall it
massproducing cheap fenrises when you get the gearwork functioning you could probably crank out 10 fenrises a year using the same tech used to create the colossus,
and about the crew and training its alot cheaper training two small vessels than a larger one.
because the large vessel the entire crew must have to learn eachothers functions and work,
while the smaller vessels they dont have to learn as much beacuse the vessels are so much smaller and the work and function on them are less.

I have a feeling, Bishop Gantry, that you have a fetish for Fenrises....

hey, the Fenris is NOT bigger than a NImitz it it is actually closer in size to a South Dekota Class Battleship (wich is a little bit smaller than an Iowa Class). also, thanks to automation and the fact the the Fenris doesn't have a launch bay, the crew size is probably more along the lines of 200 to 300.
don't forget that there is a power reactor, subspace drive, computers, and the weapons systems. also, since this is the future, these systems, even with their military manning requirements, they will require smaller crews to run the ship than an equivelant class of the current generation of warships. after all, a Nimitz class carrier with an embarked airwing carries a crew of 5500 people.

Who's to say that in the future we won't need more people to run things? Sure I'm running against the grain of popular thought but think about this - any automation only peels back a layer of jobs. Now, rather than having people to chuck coal into engines, who might also know how to fix them we just have the fixers - but they're still one person. There are still people gathering resources for technology to use as well.
Think about computers. Sure they put lots of button-pushers out of work, and the typewiter industry, but their introduction created jobs in constructing the hardware, maintaining the hardware, fixing the hardware, designing the software, plus marketing, teaching, etc. So roughly the same jobs that they took out.
