Its ok, I'm not in this for the glory, I'm in it for the challenge

I suppose Skullar is working on missions (which is why he'd feel threatened to be bested by a person who has no experience with FRED2 and alot of ingenuity, to boot), so I just don't pay attention to his negative assesments and unconstructive scruitiny. That... or he's just a hoe Either way, a thank you to those with CONSTRUCTIVE comments. If I were to join TBP team, I'm sure I could get more done, but I suppose you'd want me to prove myself before I would join, which sort of puts me in an akward position. But it wouldn't be the first akward position I've twisted myself out of before, anyway.

Actually...I doubt Skullar is feeling too much threatend. I've been making missions for years now and that really doesn't stop him

But Skullar is Skullar and I've got to hand it to him to plowing through any sort of outside oppoisition and in a strange sort of way, motivating the team. He just keeps going. Its good!

I have recovered from my yesterdays bad mood and that is the point :

The SEVERED DREAMS mission will be part of the EA CIVIL WAR campaign I am writing the script for. That means , if you want to create that mission with FRED , feel free to do so but I would be GRATEFUL if you wait a little and coop with me so it fits in story arc. There are several characters who fly in this mission like
- Lt.Cmdr Dan Hale
- Lt. Jimmy Harbinger ( Geezer )
- Lt. Rick Perryman ( Goblin )
- Lt.Cmdr. Derek Jones ( Shadow )
- Lt. John Davis ( Balrok )
- Lt. Frank Boon ( Spawn )
- Lt.Cmdr Susan Ivanova ( Griffin )

and others , like
LtCmdr. Bill Trainor the 2nd officer onboard the ALEXANDER , Majpr Ryan , the 1st Officer , Cpt.Sheridan onboard Babylon 5 ....

The severed dreams mission is certainly not only a standalone mission but one of the ultimate climaxes of the EA Civil War campaign. As I told you , please coop with me when it comes to this mission . The design of it is very delicate , for example .... where should breaching pods fly to ? They can't dock with spinning part of Bab5....

This mission is for later , pal , and it is too early to set it up right now.

Thumbs up Good luck...

... Colonel West, you are going to need it.

I have read your description how your mission works at this point and I have to say that you have that kind of detail for the mission that I would never have.

I don't know who will make the Severed Dreams mission for the EA-Civil War campaign but if you succeed on making a mission what feels real good, then we are going to use it. There's no need to try to make a mission better than someone else has...

I'm having a hard time to convince our team that I can make very good missions especially when we are having a mission designer guru like IceFire here.

I wish best of luck for you Colonel, may Valen light your path.

I have to (and I never thought I'd be saying this) agree
with Skullar. It doesn't make sense to duplicate missions
when the ships aren't going to be ready for a while. Why not
try doing some missions with the Earth/Minbari ships which
will be released first? That way you get some FRED 2 experience
and everyone will be able to play your missions sooner.

I am also not a very big fan of trying to recreate battles that
happened in the show. I think we should make our own, which
may have references to the ones on the show, but not the same
ones.
Well that's my opinion anyway.

Exclamation

Due to various (obvious) technical reasons and the logic that prevails from several of the board members, I think it would be wise for me to work on an Earth/Minbari War campaign for a while. At least, until ships that are used in this mission are released. But if campaigns like these (future ones) are nothing more than on paper, hah, that my friends is VERY easy for me to write. Some ideas for Earth/Minbari War:
"Without a Hope, Without a Doubt"
*Takes place near the middle of the Earth/Minbari War
*You are a pilot on board a deep-space reconnisance craft behind enemy lines, working in conjunction with covert Psi Corps operatives on sabotoge and espionage missions that usually go awry
*Many plot twists, including a subplot to destroy the ship by the telepaths on board, special appearances, references to the Earth/Minbari War movie
*An emphasis on stealth rather than brute force to survive, but still plenty of action
*Throw in some humor, horror, isolation, excitement, and decent but not required character development

Oh well, guess I'm off to work then

yeah, and with a subject as diverse as an entire war, then there's little fear of duplication - there can be multiple things happenning at once. Hell, so long as it ends right, there could be several BOTL missions with pilots at different parts of the line.

And, if a fan manages to better our missions, then so be it - I got hold of an X-wing editor and re-made the death star trench run mission making it more faithful to the movies.

ColonelWest, I applaud you for attempting to make a mission with such grand scope and attention to detail. Few people try to fulfill their ambitions with such enthusiasm. There are a few things you'll want to remember when trying to create such a large mission, though:

* Not everyone has a 1Ghz+ computer. While 99% of the human population appears to from my vantage point in the backwater country of Washington State, not all of us do. There are still one or two of us living in the Atomic Age.

* When trying to recreate a mission based on a cinematic story, don't simply put stuff in there because you saw it unless you're making a movie mission instead of an actual mission. The difference between the two is simple; in a movie mission, the player should be able to afterburn 20000 meters out of the main engagement and it'll unfold the same way every time. A real mission is one where the player must have some kind of participation, and either side can win. Obviously, the "bad" Earthforce guys didn't win in Severed Dreams, but letting the player's decisions and actions have an actual impact on the outcome of the story is an essential part to any mission. And, obviously, that would be going against the "stick-to-what-happened" stance some people are taking. But either way would produce fine results.

* Don't overwhelm the player with things to see and do. I'm not talking about a sensory overload or anything like that (I've never heard of a player pass out or go into seizures 'cause he saw too many ships on screen at once), but people are somtimes tempted to jump right into the middle of a furball when they're supposed to be doing something else. And then they never come back out.

Anyways, I hope you're not giving up on your Severed Dreams mission. While I know that the TBP team is making their own version (I heard that instead of dozens and dozens of fighters they'll be using three fighter wings on each side), I'd certainly be interested in seeing a more "cinematic" version of the battle and be able to interact with it. Good luck.
