Lets see, Talstavi is friendly with Vasudans, if she thought there was a Vasudan Conspiracy afoot, then the Apollo is pre-GTVA meaning that it would be unlikely that any type of virus etc could have been hardwired into the design by dodgy Vasudans...
Or Talstavi could be putting Terran Pilots in inferior craft, as she is on the Vasudan side.....
Or she is just eccentric.....
Or I'm just raving.

Personally I go with the last option.

i personally think that she is just eccentric.

also, i am not entirely sure that those are stock fighters. the only place that combat ready fighters could be obtained would eithbe storage or from a pilot training school. i tend more towards a pilot training school because the apollo, while it is a very good fighter, is docile enough for a new pilot to solo in and begin his final phase of training with. that training would include advanced navigation, craft familiarization, and live weapons training.

while all of this could be taought to the pilot in a simulater, you just can't beat live training for weeding out those pilots who can't cut it.

apollos that are active and in service, even in an auxilery role like primary trainer, will have up to date electronics and targeting packages, as well as being fully operational. a fighter that has been in storage since the great war era will have to be completly refurbished as well getting its engines and thrusters rebuilt and its electronics, targeting packages, communications systems, and sensors upgraded. while this can be done using mostly off the shelf parts, it still takes alot of time.

A suprise like the anchents are alive

I think that the Conclave wants to form an alliance with the Shivans, but I'm pretty sure that the so called defeat was no defeat, but only the beginning of a well-planned campaign. I'm sure they anticipated that they'd loose in that front, and brought it into consideration. Just when you're sure that you had a decisive victory, it's only the tip of the iceberg. That was only the beginning. They lost a few supply vessels, sciene vessels, and one destroyer, yet annihilated a large part of the GTVA 6th fleet, and remember, that was only the first incursion into the GTVA territory.
Read my lips, it was only the beginning. MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA!!!!!!
Anyways, I'm sure that the Laemodan Conclave is plotting the destruction of the GTVA at this moment. remember that noone knows exactly from where the shivans came.
Remember Ross 128.
The truth is out there.

The Ever-Elusive Ace is slowly revealing details, while keeping us in suspence.
Oh well, I guess that the Conclave doesn't want to form an allaince with the Shivans, more like for a Master-Slave relationship (when the Shivans are the slaves of course).

P.S: The Masequerade is down (The Dreaded error 404)

If you're talking about the novella FreeSpace 2: Masquerade which was done ages ago, it's at: http://www.adamantpacified.org/excalibur/main/fict.htm

If there is a copy on the FSW FTP, then I'm sure some links don't work.
