A depressing but beautiful version of the standard Battle of the Line theme, it's the last track on the first B5 soundtrack CD that was ever released.

The War : There is that Scottish style music(?) Could be excellent in briefing or debriefing. Or even as a ambient music... Suit yourself...

More to come... (maybe... )

Reqiuem of the Line is a very good and dramatic piece from B5. I think it'd work well both in game and for briefings (if you're doing those).

IceFire, check your ICQ-messages!

K, I've got this track from Eternal One now. Its good...kinda slow for a battle piece I think...but we'll see.

I really do not want to jack up download sizes for unrelated music. I didn't particularly like the music from Gladiator. Too many grinding chords and poor theme progression. Feel free to add it for yourself...but I'd rather not include it at this time when I have access to 10 B5 soundtrack CD's.

Posted by IceFire on 03-25-2001 04:24 PM:

Music table setup as it stands right now:

Track 1: Requiem of the Line
Track 2: Into the Fire
Track 3: End Game
Track 4: No Surrender, No Retreat
Track 5: Severed Dreams

The B5 Game soundtrack may be made into an additional track as will a piece from Crusade and maybe another track later. So thats how it stands now. All I need to do now is do some fading effects to smooth the transitions.

My first test pack with about 90% of music files is about 30mb. I think thats an acceptable download size for high quality music separated into 6 different tracks. Its probably going to be about 35mb when im finished, but this is probably the biggest single package that you'll have to download. The rest are fairly easily broken up.

Posted by Slasher on 03-26-2001 04:32 AM:

35MB!?

Is the whole mod gonna be put into one package, or will there be several bite-size, "manageable" downloads?

Posted by IceFire on 03-26-2001 05:20 AM:

We've repeatedly said it will be released in packages. We might do one big package download when were complete.

I don't think 35-40mb is unreasonable. Heck, Wing Commander fans downloaded Secret Operations at 65mb or 120mb (depending on the package) and some were using 28.8k modems. We'll be breaking things down as much as possible, but its hard to do such a thing without causing added confusion for those with little MOD experience.

I recommend everyone gets Gozilla or Getright and stops worrying about unfinshed downloads

Posted by Skullar on 03-26-2001 10:50 AM:

and 35 MB only for the music.
I think we should ask ISPs if they sponsor our mod. THEY are the ones who gain money when people are downloading it

3DDownloads through Telefragged will serve all of our purposes. Mirroring in at least three places and high speed servers.

Yo IceFire...

Wouldn't it work if you pack them with Mp3 encoder (with poor quality?) and then put them as a *.Rar file... it would probably drop the size a lot... could you test it and report how much difference there would be.

Thanks...

When I do the next RAR it'll probably be about 35mb. It shouldn't rise much higher than that.

Posted by Slasher on 03-28-2001 01:20 AM:

35MB most certainly wouldn't have been unreasonable a few months ago, but recently my ISP started cutting our online time into 40 minute blocks. But I'm a tiny minority here, so I think I'll do what CptWhite said and get a program where I can download a large file in segments.

Posted by IceFire on 03-28-2001 01:25 AM:

There is alot of these programs available nowadays and since music is not a required download, you can download it as time allows.

In other words, you'll be watching the download countdown for the next pack release but you can grab the music later.

I know Freespace 2 doesn't support MP3 files but I meant that players must then decode the files after downloading...

I don't know would the encoding to MP3 files drop the size of pack much but I just ask that you would try it... even if it results in decoding every MP3 into wave files.
