That's not long and boring, but it is unrealistic and ridiculous :-P

I hope this isn't to long and boring, and maybe someone could take some ideas....

If you and two new races and make sure you get to assemble all armies of all sides in one system it would be more messy . And if you add 10000 meson warheads it would even be more messy, and ........( any thing messy X 100^100). Now that is a lot of fun!!!

I think that earth won't beleive were on their side, and then start to kill us or somethimg like that.

I also think your choice will be to stay with the GTVA or go with the earth people.

Actually, I've always wondered what happened to the Sathanas fleet at Capella. I mean, they triggered the supernova that wiped out everything in the system, but does that mean that they were suicidal? And even if they survived, why did they do it? Just to wipe out the refugees? Nope, that's putting the chicken before the egg. So what was their reason? As we saw in FS1, the Lucifer is able to wipe out a planet (Vasuda Prime), so I'm sure that it wasn't for the sake of destroying the Capellan planets - the SJ fleet would have had no problem with that without blowing up the sun.
So, where does that leave us? They didn't specifically want to destroy the Capellan planetary system, nor to wipe out all the inhabitants & refugees. Therefore we are left with the only (as far as I can see) 2 remaining results:
1- They used the energy surge from the nova for something even worse (!?!)
2- They needed to create a nebula...(Hmmmm with a capital "H"!!!)
Now I'm not sure at all, but wasn't there some sort of hint in FS1 that the Shivans were able to survive a limited time in space without ships? So what if the inside of a nebula is to them what a planetary surface is to Terrans and Vasudans?!? And so perhaps now they have a forward base in GTVA space, as well as their demonstrated ability to not require a jump node to use subspace....

Posted by wazup on 12-20-2000 12:43 AM:

I think that the shivans expand their territory by creating nebulas. I saw a map (no i don't remember where) that most of the shivan systems close to the GTVA were nebulas.

Posted by sandwich on 12-20-2000 01:40 AM:

Well, I'm playing through the Warzone add-on and I just got to the part where you get to the Mintaka (I think...) system beyond a Knossos device and find another nebula (I hate the nebula levels' framerate!!!). It's interesting to see how I'm neither the only person nor the first person to make the connection between the nebulae and the Shivans... If this theory is developed further in the add-on campaigns don't spoil it for me here...

Posted by George on 12-20-2000 02:49 AM:

I think that shivans like nebulas because they look pretty...

Posted by wazup on 12-20-2000 05:30 AM:

i don't know how they thimk they look pretty

Posted by Turnsky on 12-20-2000 10:46 PM:

The shivans probably created the nebula to fuel their entire fleet
i am rather new here but i'm a big fan of the freespace series.

how much fuel do you think it takes to make a Sathanas go?

Posted by George on 12-21-2000 01:45 AM:

I think that the reason shivans think that nebulas are pretty is because they have awesome computers on which they play freespace 2 which is why they kick everyones butt.

Another possibility is that shivans create nebulas so that they dont have to deal with getting sunburns from stars.

A hell of alot.

Fuel? Umm...hello...their reactors can probably burn for thousands of years.

Its like the jump from disel to nuclear in submarines.

Yes...Shivans like nebulae. Probably increases their sensitivity to subspace distrotions. They went after the Trinity and the Aquitane fast once they figured out where they were.
