The designing.
------------------
Yep.
If it's 10 years after Warzone(I wouldn't know, never d/l'd it), then in keeping with my idea, the parts were built in that span of time, and the Tolomans were put together from the parts in a very short time. They'd've probably needed four or five shipyards dedicated to the parts though.
m8 from what we can see of the collosus construction cap ships are made of one hull unit that is filled in, you cant just make 10 com bit 10 engines etc. then put them together you would make 4 complete ships at the same time. the point is if an orion takes about 2 years and the gtva would have had to be re building its fleets how did it find the resources to build 8 of these when it took 20 years to build the collosus.
They've gotcha there. But who says that they weren't already in existance, and just retrofitted with beam weaponry?
Think about that, and don't reply...
Actually the Tolomans were around shortly after FreeSpace 2 ended, they are within the Warzone timeframe as well as in Derelict but not in either engagement.
BWO happens less than a decade after Warzone.
The project was originally started during the Great War, but canceled due to the collapse of the GTA and VPE, later the Hecate was built due to it's better use of newer Vasudan technologies.
Just prior to the battle at Capella, when it was realized that the NTF war was going to turn into a war of attrition and that though the Colossus is a power symbol, it can't be at all theatres at once, the project was reinstated as a "quick and dirty" ship to put together.
So in total, it took 2366-2371 five years to build the vessels, since the main blueprints existed and the vessels were designed to be modular to accept new technology.
So though the base Toloman might look like a Hades... you might see some that are *very* different

Cole never makes any mention of the Shivans from Derelict because he was busy fighting Shivans in Mintaka, Kaus Borealis and so on. When he was ordered to return to Sirius command (and you never learn this in Warzone) he actually never travelled to Sirius and instead let things play out in the nebula while the Warlock took on supplies in Regulus. Remeber the High Priority message passed to Alpha 1? Those were instructions for him.
The second Lucifer class destroyer (of which I can never spell) was calling the Shivans in Mintaka as well so while the Warlock and the Tatenen and Russiks ships were in the Nebula and in Kaus Borealis, the events of Derelict were taking place.
The Vidar royally screwed up the Shivans homing in on the second Lucifer and they became confused.
Which is why Cole never mentions the events in Derelict. They were not part of his memoirs
. He learned of it later so its not really part of his memories of the Shivans. And besides, nobody ever tells the whole story now do they.
Sorry, sorry.

*pats IceFire on the back*
You see, if enough brain power, you can cram enough campaigns with completely different or even contradictory plots together into a seamless whole!
