Exactly HOW big did you make it?

Posted by KillMeNow on 04-02-2001 10:58 PM:

i believe it was 4 million meters in diameter

Posted by KillMeNow on 04-03-2001 05:13 AM:

yeah there are are collision probs - i had to set my ship to invulerable otherwise it keeps blowing up - alos being that far away from it means you told off for disserting etc

besides by my calculation its bigger than the earth at that size if yo think about it a certain way - at that distance you were 3000km from it and it filled the screen - the earth from 3000km wouldn't - basically the view i got is consistant with the earth from maybe a 1000miles thats what 1500km or something so its too big - its only suppose to be a small moon sized object

I know your talkin about the Death Star.If you have made this behemoth,e-mail it to me!

id be eternally grateful

P.S has anyone ever gotten over the hypermod 2? its awesome.

P.S.S I've already started on the Death Star.A site is been created now.myself and a few colleuges are working the death star, the imperial star destroyer, and virtually all major ships in star wars.were also going to make a big campaign to blend in with it.it'll take ages to make, but it will be worth it.anyone who wants to join is very welcome.

Many Hands make light work.....or,in this case, many FS2 fans make the Death Star Fire Sooner!

Posted by Imperiator on 04-03-2001 07:23 AM:

no offense killmenow, but your version of the death star sounds crap.I think you should join us and help pull of the real thing. Our death star will have beam cannons, turbolasers, and every frickin gun you could think of mounterd on it.

Posted by Jabu on 04-03-2001 12:35 PM:

I made a textured sphere, 120km diameter. It worked fine in ModelView and FRED2, but FS2 crashed every time I tried it there

Just testing if it'd work.

Posted by Imperiator on 04-03-2001 02:11 PM:

ok.now im telling everyone here who's HAS tried or IS GOING TO TRY make a death star.Join us and don't send your pethy talents to waste. We need everyone we can get to help us make the campaign - modders, mission makers,everyone..We don't need everyone trying to make a 120km round ball with a big gun and a dent on it.

Were making the real thing. Its GTVA Vs Empire. The Rebellion might make an appearence but thats "salad on the side".

Main Issues are:-

Death Star
Super Star Destroyer
Star Destroyer
Ties(tie fighter,tie interceptor,tie bomber,etc)
new GTVA ships.

Shivans or NTF will not be in this.

The story is still coming together,so any good suggestions would be appreciated.

I said GOOD.

likewise i was just messing to see how big an object freespace could handle - and 4000km is definatly out causes collision issues - but i i cant remember for sure if its was the 400km one that wored fine or not - it might have been the 40km one but even if it was thts probally big enough - can you image trying to turret the thing so it had more than one turreting firing on a ship at any one moment? hell even one turret firing on something would be difficult with that size of an object - would need litterally thousands of turrets

Posted by KillMeNow on 04-03-2001 08:00 PM:

hey the star destroyer size chart - since when was there such a thing as ecilpse and soverign class??????? the super star destroyer was the largest vessel otehr than the deathstars - the battle of endor - dath vaders ship was a super class star destroyer - he would have the best and that was the peak of the empire - afterwards tehy couldn't have bult something like that - all the novels all point to the SSD being the biggest - and another thing the ecilpse is ugly and the soverign just doesn't look imperial

Posted by Jabu on 04-03-2001 08:11 PM:

Don't dis the Eclipse. It could kick any ship's ass in a second (barring Culture).

It's in some of the novels. The ones with the reincarnated Emperor Palpatine, who actually destroyed the ship

I actually like the look on the Sovvy. That was also in a book somewhere, can't remember which ones.

Posted by Jabu on 04-03-2001 08:16 PM:

quote:
During his reign, Palpatine had always wanted to show off his power; he did so in the form of the two Death Stars. When his clone was revived, he once again sought to build a huge craft to strike fear into the galaxy. So the Eclipse was born. This ship was a brand new class of Destroyer. It was an Eclipse-Class Super Destroyer, and measured a massive 17.5 kilometres long, over twice the size of the Executor and over ten times that of an Imperial-Class Destroyer.

The Eclipse had a solid black hull, and its main use was to scare the enemy into submission. This tactic often worked, but it had enough weapons to make sure that if the enemy were not scared, they would be completely wiped out. In fact its shields and hull were so strong that the destroyer could ram ships without even so much as a dent on its surface.

The ships was a feat of engineering, and rivaled the Death Star in terms of manpower. On board the might behemoth was a crew of over 700,000 beings and 150,000 troops. Five prefabricated garrison bases and 100 AT-ATs allowed the Eclipse to stage massive ground assaults.

In space, the Destroyer had immense superiority. Five hundred heavy laser cannons and 550 turbolasers allowed the ship to fight entire New Republic fleets on its own. Fifty squadrons of Interceptors and eight squadrons of TIE bombers gave the ship massive protection against any enemy starfighters foolish enough to try to engage the black Destroyer.

The crew size was not the only similarity the Eclipse had to the Death Star. At the very front of the ship sat the Destroyer’s main weapon; a superlaser. Disappointingly for Palpatine, this superlaser had only two-thirds of the power of the Death Star’s, meaning it was only able to crack a planet’s crust rather than wipe it off the face of the galaxy in one shot. Shame really.

Thanks to Luke and Leia, the Eclipse was stopped over the Pinnacle Moon. Brother and sister Jedi joined forces, and engulfed Palpatine in life energy. This stunned the Emperor, and made him lose control of the massive Force storms he had created. The twins escaped, and looked back as the Eclipse, and everybody on board, was torn apart by the out-of-control Force storms.

Maybe Vader was right; the power to destroy a planet, or in this case crack its crust, is indeed insignificant compared to the power of the Force. How ironic.

Four Sovereign-class command ships were still under construction in the Emperor's heavily fortified Deep Core shipyards in the years immediately following the rout at Endor. Whether any of these ships was ever actually completed remains unknown, but the names assigned for the first four are Sovereign, Autarch, Despot and Heresiarch. According to The Jedi Academy Sourcebook, all known ships of this class had been destroyed by the time of the Suncrusher incidents.

Like the larger Eclipse, the Sovereign mounts an axial superlaser weapon in a prow keel. Although it is not sufficiently powerful to achieve complete disruption of a terrestrial planet, is quite capable of rendering a world uninhabitable. The inclusion of this weapon has important technological implications: a minimalist superlaser device can be miniaturised to a scale of just less than ten miles long. In contrast, the prime weapon of the original Death Star appears to have been almost four times longer.

The docking facilities are not well known, since the Sovereign is only seen as a silhouette. However there is an important indentation in the keel line immediately behind the fin of the axial superlaser. This may represent a significant cavity like that of the Executor, although it is far from proven. According to the Dark Empire Sourcebook, the fighter capacity includes only 35 squadrons of interceptors and 5 of bombers, and 75 "all terrain armoured vehicles" are carried as well.

Judging by the silhouette, the engines are sheltered in a cavity between the dorsal and ventral hull plates like the arrangement for Imperator. However it's not clear whether the engines are bell-shaped or shaft-like. Parts of the outline at the aft end of the underside could be explained by quasi-cylindrical engine shafts protruding like those of Executor. Also like the Executor, there is no ventral bulb.

i dont know - the whole idea of ships with super lasers well just doesn't sit right - - liek the whole series of books that had e-wings and all that in them - just does feel star wars - another thing those designs dont have the elegance of the original star destroyers and ssd's - like i said they dont fit right - besides the bigger the target the easier it is to hit with torps

Who'd you think would win, the Apocalypse or the Eclipse? They're both hugely powerful and can take out about anything . . .

Hey... I was just testing if something that big would work in FS2. Apparently not

Gonna go for the Eclipse? Or the Sovvy? Or any of the newer fighters?

(BTW. A Star Destroyer size chart can be found here)

I have never seen these new star wars ships before. They are very awesome, and if I can find a place to download them I will definately include them in my FS2 campaign where its GTVA Vs Empire. The NTF allies with the rebellion as well, although because luke skywalker is a tool he doesn't know bosch is a lunatic.

I think the apocalypse could take down the eclipse and the soveirgn as long as its doesn't try take either of them head-on.it would be wasted by the superlaser.
I would now like to see some imperial ships mount beam cannons.

A 3DS Sovereign model there.

Couldn't find a model of the Eclipse anywhere.
