ok side note: If commissioned, it would not be "Bastion 2."

For example, there have been like 13 USS Maine's in the US Navy. But they are not called Maine XII or Maine IX, because only one ship with that name can be comissioned at once, ergo, it's called the Maine.

calling it "The GTVA's newest vessel, the Bastion, of the WillKickShivanButt-class," might be more appropriate, but Bastion 2 just irritates the hell out of me because it's incorrect, at least according to approximately every navy currently in existance.

Nitpicky? Yes, but it's something people notice.

Somebody called me?

Posted by Shrike on 11-24-2000 12:54 AM:

For the Bastion being a Hecate, someone must have read Terran Imperium, as I wrote in two recently-comissioned Hecates, the Bastion and Galatea

But yes, it just sounds better to call it the 'Bastion', as opposed to the 'Bastion Too'. Only under rare circumstances will ships recieve a numeric in their name. Examples are the QE II, which, if memory serves, is both a follow up to the original QE AND named after ELizabeth the 2nd.

Any comments?

Posted by Asta on 11-24-2000 12:59 AM:

let me clear this up. the bastion 2 is just what we dubbed it. it is a new class, and will not be called the bastion 2. see our forum.

The "Bastion Too," huh? That's like saying the "Bastion Also." Ha.

Posted by Orange on 11-24-2000 05:43 AM:

Just go with the traditional FS way. Call it the Bastion Mark II or something.

Oops. Oh yeah, it was an Orion in FS1

And, um, if the Bastion was an Orion class, why call it the Bastion-2 class? I mean, if they made a new Orion class and called it the Orion-2 class that might make sense, but if the ship wasn't a Bastion class then this new one doesn't need to be a Bastion-2 class. See what I'm getting at? I think I'm confusing myself, which doesn't sound great for other people understanding me

[edit: nevermind about this part]

No, you got it right.

If it's a new class, it shouldn't have a numeric. Thus it'll be Bastion class, lead ship the GTD Bastion, second Terran destroyer to bear the name.

Ok, Ok, the class is a Dreadnaught destroyer, not sure if ispelled that one right...Psycho if you see this, its your call on wether its the Bastion or Bastion2.

Yeah, what's cofusing about it is that the original GTD Bastion was a ship, not a class. The new "Bastion II" is a class. If the first Bastion was a class, then you could just go the way of the Herc and name it "Bastion Mk II" (as someone said), but that won't work because there was no Bastion class before it.

My thoughts? Make it the Orion Mk II class, and then make the lead ship the Bastion (as was stated, second ship to bear the name). This could be a problem because the Orion class was a Destroyer class and this "Orion Mk II" class would be a Juggernaught, apparently.. but I say screw that, just name it Orion Mk II.

For some reason, I wanted to type that out.

Posted by AZONIC on 11-24-2000 09:56 PM:

DO YOU PEOPLE READ sorry but how many times do I have to say this! Bastion2 is not the class its the name! Dreadnaught is the class

Posted by Alphakiller on 11-24-2000 10:59 PM:

OK there are 3 things we're having here, and someone's confused.

Name: The name of the individual ship.
Class: Name of the class of ship. E.g. Orion-class destroyer.
Type Of Ship: This denotes what TYPE it is - e.g. a carrier is a CV (Or in the Nimitz-class case, CVN, which stands for Carrier, Nuclear b/c it has a nuclear powerplant.)

So the Bastion should be the Bastion (name) of the Bastion-class, and the TYPE is a Dreadnought. (GTDn or whatever.)

Good, good explanations

Class: Dreadnaught destroyer
Name: Bastion2
Type: Self suporting Capital ship

Posted by Alphakiller on 11-25-2000 02:08 AM:

Azonic, um...I meant like this:

Name: Bastion
Class: Orion Mk II / Bastion (or whatever you name the class)
Type: Dreadnaught Destroyer (GTDn) (or whatever the GTsomething is gonna be)
