Homosexual secret mission? (no, I'm serious)

Just a question, and it is a serious one. I'm thinking of adding a secret mission in my game, and some of my friends have suggested that I make it a gay mission. You know, with pilots doing very camp voices saying things like "ooo, look at the gun on that one..." etc.

Being gay myself I can see that it would be funny from my point of view. But would any of you be interested? The mission itself would actually be 100% playable with a storyline that fits in with the campaign, and not a crappy "just for the hell of it" mission.

What do you think? comic relief?

Stuff like this has been done (not in FreeSpace) and done well. One particular Simpsons episode did this subject fairly well in my books. I can see it turning away those with a fear of such subjects but it may be really good to do anyways.

...ah sorry...I am a bit stressed...in any case, I don't like the idea...I don't know how many gays are out there, but I doubt that everyone of these would think it's funny...

Could be very funny but why limit the humour to gay people. Make it like a Carry On film with lots of camp jokes about all sexual orientations.

Well as I said, I'm gay myself, and I've asked a few of my gay friends. They all agree it would be really funny to do it. I'll explain in more detail:

The male pilots will be very camp, commenting on the "big guns" and when you destroy a ship instead of "show us how it's done sir" they would say "oooo, I bet you could teach me a thing or two" etc.

I think it's perfectly fine to take the piss out of gays - as long as it's meant in good humour

The female pilots would be lesbians for example - and yes it would be jokes like in a carry on film. Iw ouldnt be making fun of gay people, I would be creating a camp mission, that's all

I'm not gay bashing or anything, but I don't like the idea of that kind of thing.
EDIT: It might work in an adventure game, but not in a flight sim. If the wold campaign is about that kind of thing, I wouldn't mind, as long as there is a awarning on the campaign description.

I think everyone is misunderstanding me. It isnt making fun of gays, it's a gay mission - all the pilots just happen to be gay or lesbian. It will be a secret mission in FS3DD.

A quick tip. Don`t call your campaign FS3. If it's not from [V] it's not FS3. Almost all the campaigns follow on from FS2 anyway so we'll all be assuming yours does too unless it says otherwise.

By the time Freespace occurs you would think that intra-terran minority issues would have disappeared.
It's more Terran-Vasudan tensions they have to worry about.

issues? what issues? it wont be dealing wityh isses. all I mean is the inflight chatter of pilots in alpha ans beta wing of one of my missions will just happen to be spoken by gay pilots, taht's all.

i wont be dealing with issues or rights - just some funny lines - like julian clarey or Graham norton would say.... i dont get what everyone is saying?

we are people - we can laugh at ourselves. honestly, it doesnt matter. we take the piss out of ourselves all the time. this wont be about gay rights, or gay needs or inquality. it will simply be a bunch of gay pi;lots chatting throughout the mission. for example:

(imagine camp voices)

"ooo look at the gun on that one"

"I'd love to shove my plasma down that one's exhaust vent"

etc.

jsut a bit of fun, light hearted ness.

gays make fun of themselves - we know what we are, and we're comfortable with it. there will be no insults or anything like that. it's jsut designed to be funny, nothign more. there will be a disclaimer on the briefing as well.

I am 99% sure that every gay player would love it. it wont go any further than the above quotes. nothing rude, nothing graphic, i wont make them talk about anal sex or anythign else.

just a bit of fun in a mission. as i said, ive passed it by 20 gay friends - not one was offended.

political correctness annoys me. like i said, it's a good idea in theory but did you know:

at British Telecom, we are not allowed to call peopel black or white - it's "People froma hot country" or "people from a cold country". Dez, a black gy at Bt was MORE offended by that becfause he said he was bornin England.

The English police can't call someone a "bad egg" (which means a person who is bad, doesnt fit in etc" as (apparently) "bad egg" links to "Egg and Spoon" which is cockney slang for somethign that is racist (i dont know the phrase).

PC really annoys me. im just taking the piss out of it. nothing more. and it hink you really have to play the mission to appreciate it.

jsut trust me on it ;-)

If the mission will not be a joke...what would you define as a joke then? The fun in the mission will be there because of the gays! So...I think you can really transfer this to a joke about gays, as they are responsible for the fun....

I know what you mean. Speaking as a fellow brit I`d be insulted if next time I went to america someone called me an Asian-american. I'M NOT AMERICAN! The funniest thing about political correctness is that it is NEVER carried out by the people it is supposedly protecting.
