Question How many people play TBP with SCP?

For those in the dark:
TBP = The Babylon Project
SCP = Source Code Project a.k.a. FreeSpace Open (FSO)
You can find the latter here and the former here.

I'm just curious, how many of you play TBP using a FSO build? If you don't currently, do you plan on trying it in the future?

Posted by IPAndrews on 02-26-2004 09:06 AM:

I do. TBP crashes fairly frequently with it though.

I do. Only crashes in nebula missions. Waiting for 3.6 to come out.

The latest, greatest build is generaly considered to be the 1_20_2004 build. There are newer builds such as Bob's test series, but they have a few notable bugs. You can find the 1_20 build in the stickied thread "Latest Version of Everything" in the SCP forum.

Later!

well, all i get are crashes with the FSO, so i never use it......perhaps i am doing somethng wrong.

I have tried it lately.

Posted by IPAndrews on 03-01-2004 01:18 PM:

No you're not. It crashes more than it should. I won't have people blame our models either. They work in retail FS2 and FS_Open should not be any more picky that the retail version. If it is, it's not doing it's job.

IP: the problem with the one model had to do with texture name length and it has been resolved in both the model and in the source

it doesn't really crash any more than it should any more - i only really expirience one crash on occasion and that is the stupid bvug with reticle targetting that we cannot lock down because it doesn't know up in debug builds!!!

yeah, that thing pisses me off
I am on the verge of makeing a total replacement for it that ray picks the ship you'r pointed at

and I just recently put out a new feature demo (keep in mind this is not stability tested, especaly the trueform bit, it's unoffical, just posting it here so you can have some fun with it)
that exe has three of my favorite unnoffical features, trueform (accessable via the -max_subdivide 2.5 comand line), decals (needs table changes) and environment mapping (works in mission no changes needed, other than specmaps, but it'll use the ship texture if it can't find one of those), these are unoffical as we arn't adding anyhting untill after 3.6, and as a result bugs specific to them are not suported

if you can't get FSO to run, describe how far you get (do you get an error about a registry string?)

I noticed, or I think I noticed in this last demo/test build that the "fisheye" perspective that kind of warps stuff at the edge of the screen is gone. I'm sorry I don't know the technical term, especially since it's been discussed frequently before, but overall I really liked having it gone. For once, the big ships actually seem BIG. Fly up next to an Omega and it finally seems like the 1,700~ meter brick it's supposed to be!

Again, I dunno if this was intentional, or even if I saw it at all. I've been limited to playing FS2 at around midnight these days so maybe my eyes are just giving me candy so I'll go to bed already.

Might be a non-standard field-of-view (FOV) setting.

honestly

I never figured out how to use SCP beyond main campaign so I gave up. Please tell me I am not alone , ok then IT'S JUST ME!

Unfortunately the future is gonna be SCP enabled mods but please don't forget us retail people...(like all 1 of us!)
