Volition: Volition Art

Posted by WildWolf:

Once again, I'm bringing the craziest Volition images I can't dig up. This time Orange graces us with his first attempt:

I believe that's Tim Borrelli with one of those new "L33T Mowers". It might be a promo for some movie or something. Don't forget about that little mexican kid in the corner.. I'm not totally sure what that's about... I'll leave that up for speculation.

Hey! I thought you weren't going to post this! Whee! Thanks!

Well, it is pretty funny looking. For once I'm finally impressed at your graphics abilities.

Hey.. ouch.. that 'for once' thing hurt.. besides.. I can't tell if that's the one Plasma did or I did.. we both worked on one at the same time and they both turned out the same. I put The Lawnmower Man title in and the Mexican saying TIMMMAY! on there too.

Umok. Any more art stashed up there?

There's a HUGE MASSIVE bug in the GFS contest winner that makes winning HORRIBLY easy. Just disable that damn Mentu that jumps in and take out any turrets that threaten your shuttle, and STAND BACK. Watch until the station self-destructs, then blow up the Mentu. Everything goes smoothly from there with little to threaten you or need escort that your wingmen can't provide. TOLD you it was horribly easy.

MY mission rocked, but they didn't even give it an honorable mention. Ah well... The homocidal thoughts have passed now. Or have they? <evil grin>

Posted by Orange on 08-10-2000 10:35 PM:

That's not what I was talking about.. I was talking about the drawing contest.. This one was done in FSView most likely with a background made by someone else that the guy found.. the one that won was:

I submitted mine and didn't even get an honorable mention.. I fully rendered mine and post produced it in Photoshop.. it's:

This makes me angry.

I like the background of the winner's better, but like you said, it's probably not his own work, and even if it were, if you took the Herc II (only FS2 reference) out, you realize it's the background that truely makes the picture. Besides, the background is wrong too, unless Sol is suddenly a binary system and I didn't hear about it.

Posted by Orange on 08-11-2000 09:17 PM:

Yeah.. everything in my image I made myself (except for the FS Models) I made the backgrounds, all the effects, etc.

Nope, I believe that second object (not the sunrise), is a warpglow, just without the actual portal.

I wouldn't be TOO sure about that Chucker, though it is a possibility, it just seems too distant, and it doesn't have any of those wierd wavey effects along the edges... Again, it's debatable.

Maybe it's earth when capella went supernova. But then again they don't have herc MKII

and maybe the image is just totally inaccurate and sucks and mine is better.

You're right, it doesn't have the wavy edges, but there are 2 parts to a subspace portal, the wavy animation part, called WarpMap01.ani, and then there's this thing here called Warpglow01.pcx. The two of them make a full subspace portal. Check the Bastion movie and you'll see it. It's that large shiny bright line coming out of the portal and it's particularly easy to see in that movie.

Look familiar?

or he could have just used two seperate lens flares, which he did. There's a white lens flare that does the exact same effect in Photoshop.. very beginner effects.

OR it could just be a crappy, inaccurate picture that no one really cares all that much about, but everyone knows it shouldn't have won.
