-- If the shivans never existed, what would happened? (http://volitionwatch.papageorgefamily/vwbb/showthread.php?threadid=7420)

If the shivans never existed, what would happened?

If the shivans never existed...

Who would have won, the terrans or the vasudans?
When the shivans first appeared, the terrans where advancing or retreating?

"Both sides were exhausted and at the verge of internal collapse"

Terrans would have won, IMHO... though it would have been another 10 years of warfare.
Remember, Terrans were more flexible, were gaining the upper hand in technology (Avenger) and had gained the intiative (though the legendary Operation Thersher backfired).

I think the Terries would've won too.

Their ships were stronger and as Jacc mentioned above, they adapted. They researched new weaponry. It wouldn't take too long for us to annihilate the Vasudans. Take or leave 4 years.

Mostly because the Vasudans aren't enough of a threat to kick GTR&D into full operation, like the Shivans did.

Why is everyone referring to the Terrans as "they"? Do only Vasudans post here?

I think *we* (ha!) would have won as well. Assuming Awakenings is canon, the GTA lost a huge portion of its fleet seven years into the T-V war due to crazy subspace physics:

quote:
On or about April 16, 2128, a huge GTA invasion fleet entered the Antares-Vasuda jump node. The fleet, consisting of fourteen GTC Fenris class cruisers, nine GTD Reliant class destroyers, and three GTD Orion class destroyers, disappeared moments after entering subspace. At the Vasudan end of the node, one ship, the GTC Hornbeck, emerged.

The disappearance of the fleet stuck the GTA in a bind. The loss of the fleet caused our forces to cancel Operation Midway (the invasion of the Vasuda system) and almost caused the Terrans to lose the T-V war.

Now if the GTA came within a hairsbreadth of losing the war and still managed to pull even with the Vasudans by the time FS1 rolled around, surely we have the better military.

Interestingly, this comes full circle: If the fleet hadn't disappeared, we probably would have conquered Vasuda and won the T-V war pretty quickly. Then what? Would the Shivans still have come even though the war was over? Or would they have come regardless because of all the subspace disruption?

Still play FS1? Check out my upcoming campaign, Fortunes of War.
Play FS2 instead? Check out my finished minicampaign, Deus Ex Machina. :D

Well, who knows the future of the terrans.

humans still can learn of new techonology, can advance, .......

Is like in Star Trek, the Q's, that are far superior than humans, they were interested on them, because they could see that humans could grow and they were growing faster than they expected, and they said that humans are different than others, in sort ways. Maybee that could happend in this story, except the Q's, duhh.

BTW, that idea which regards humans as somway unique is quite an old theory. It has stood on some old novels of Asimov's, as well as in the Foundation-series. Well, humans are adapting, expansive, technological species, but can we expect every other race (if they exist) to be also?

Remember, that Vasudans had scarce resources, ineffective social system and above all bad fighters. Bombers are great, but most starships sucked ***. Except the Typhon. And it was ugly.

I don't know...

Remember the HOL Hammer?

If they used disposable transports for that kind of duty, The Terrans would've been in deep doggy-doo.

Actually, if the Shivans never existed at all, the Ancients would've probably enslaved the Vasudans, and probably wiped our butts out even before we had the chance to get any farther from sharp sticks and stones.
