You lucky bastard...

My birthday is one week AFTER the Joutopäivät (a "summer festival" in Joutsa), and that is really annoying! Thats because Joutopäivät is pretty much only real happening in Joutsa, and it means lots of drinking and fun and etc to folks around here...
Well no matter. Being under aged hasn't stopped anyone before, and it will not stop anyone in the future.

Little sidetracked... Sorry...

Lucky, you live in the civilized world where the drinking age is 18, I'm stuck in the states where it's 21. I had to drive 3 hours up to Canada to get plastered for New Years. Oh well... just a few more months.

I will never understand the desire to get drunk.

I am a hardcore gamer, being drunk blunts my atom-sharp edge. This, to me, is intolerable.

Ok, drunk was the wrong word- I like to get BUZZED, not to be confused with drunk, or even worse, ****-faced. Being buzzed allows one to lose inhibitions, without getting the illusion that you are ten feet tall and bullet proof. (this does happen to some people I know)

I would be kind of interested to see how I'd handle a starfury with the stick in one hand and a beer in the other, but I'd rather play Mag-Blast with my friends. (if you don't know what mag is-don't ask)

I dont under stayed the need to drink flat at all. i think it a waste of money and time.

oh well every one thinks differnt about things in this world thats why we have people out there CRASHING PLANES INTO BUILDINGS if every one thot the same that would never have happend but if ever one thot the same we might not have Computer or Freespace to play.

All i have to say dont drink and drive. might get your self killed or get someone else killed that you dont now.

and if you do drink and drive and end up killing someone or a few people i hope they put you away for a long time.

But i dont now the Laws in other Countrys about that stuff i just now that in the US we have to be 21 to drink.

Me personly think the law should be 100 years old before you drink by that time most poeple cant even walk, drive, or there hafe dead.

but thats me and thats what i think.

Live long and Prosper

Nahh they shouldn't make a legal age, they should just make drinking ilegal along with smoking and several other compounds I can think of.

Ummm Dredhawk, could you maybe type slower or proofread your post?

And not that I need to justify myself to people I have never, and most likely will never meet in person, but:
1) I don't drink often, generally less than once a month
2) I always have a good time with my friends, whom are very amusing. (Especially when they're soused, and I'm not!)
3) No matter how good any game on your computer is it AIN'T REAL. (Although the ability to suspend disbelief is very present TBP.)

Congratulations Veltzu!

Age of 18 is important to every person in this world. Now you can drive a car, buy alcohol (that is not important ), buy XXX stuff (yeah, right ) and some other stuff...

Party on!

Alcohol is not the problem, it's how people can abuse it (like any pharmacological substance). I know different countries have different problems and in Britain we have a very high drunken violence rate but virtually the lowest drink-driving rate in the World. With education and experience people can learn to live in moderation or at least in safety. If you flat out deny people alcohol until 21 then when people reach that age they have little experience at lower levels so can create problems. In much of Europe (including the UK) light drinking with meals (e.g. One glass of wine) is not only allowed but encouraged at early teen ages.

I wish everyone out there a happy time and wish that you can all enjoy life and its celebratory moments like birthdays and New Years (see this post did have a purpose it just took a while to get there).

I was reading the lurkers guide last night and in the "JMS speaks" section on "Survivors", where we first see Garibaldi hit the bottle, JMS says the following:
"What do I know about alcoholics, to portray them? Well, aside from a degree in clinical psychology, and some internship work in the area, I come from a family with alcoholism going back at least four generations, and I'm talking *heavy duty*. I am, in fact, the first male Straczynski in my branch of this particular stunted tree NOT to have this problem."

Happy birthday, I consider the drinky drinky discussion done- or at least my part in it.

fact: alcohol in moderation is GOOD for you. (note, I said in moderation)

fact: the psychological benefits of socialising with friends and getting plastered can, in some people, outweigh the physical problems.

fact: tobacco is worse for you than many (even some class a) drugs.

Thumbs down Booze

I support the legalization of Marijuana and certain hallucinogens. I think that the drinking age should be much lower, but some kind of test should be required before you are liscensed to drink. I of course refer to tests that are created locally (based on a national standard) and handeled individually...of course that requires a government that CARES instead of one that pulls out of important treaties so it can make things go boom until another country figures out how to keep them from going boom (arms race commences). Uh, and I've neve understood the appeal of alcohol myself, tastes awful and I don't like even getting buzzed (altering the function of your brain chemistry always seemed cowardly to me for some reason...but I've learned to be less judgemental), I guess I have a general aversion to addictive substances, it really figures into that fact that I have an addictive personality and I don't want to risk addiction (I've seen severe addicts...scary...I've also seen drunk peole, also scary).

But then again, I also think that the voting age should start at 12 (you have to pass a test, of course) and that it should be mandatory (you don't vote, you don't work...take that freeloaders!). While I'm going at it, I think some kind of federal service (by no means military only, especially with potential 12 year old voters) should be required to obtain full citizenship and the right to test for priveleges...thank you Starship Troopers (book, not that abominable film). Okay, I stop now, sorry, I'm passionate about politics and desperate for a time when the USA will finally make some drastic changes (I am very liberal for the most part, I realize some of that may not click with typical American liberalism...zompist.com [personal favorite of mine, never hurts to plug, and sorry I didn't link, I don't care THAT much])
