FSFPS vs. FS3

If volition is willing to do this and think that it would sell well to both fs and rf fans, why don't they also make an fs3? Although it wouldn't (as much) appeal to the RF community, it would certainly appeal to die-hard fs fans (such as me) and also to the space combat sim community.

Volition Watch is making this, not Volition.

this isn't really Volitions. it's fan made.

but FS3 is very unlikely, because Interplay...er, Titus, has the rights. to it.

this would be officially unofficial.

So?

So what if V don't make it, it would be a mod only i understand, but how about a littl ebit to quench fs2 fan's thirst for new multi stuff

Well, yes, you do, Shock. Since Red Faction is a first-person shooter, the game engine it uses is ... believe it or not ... a first-person shooter engine. So how, pray tell, are you going to adapt an FPS engine to a space-sim game?
Project IGI is the only one I can think that tried and even it went the other way around (e.g. flight sim engine to fps game)

Nope. Half-Life is Quake II engine and Homeworld is it's own, I believe.

No Orange...its actually the Quake 1 engine, but of course, the Valve team made their own improvements, improvements that basically bring it upto Quake 2 level. I'm sure they worked closely with ID for that part of the engine, but it was designed from the base Q1.

I know this is a little off topic (so shh Orange) but I think that it would be cool if a game combined two engines to make a both FPS and FS game in one. I mean, if you read sci-fi/action books they take place on the ground and in the air

Question

Does this mean I'm gonna have to go and buy the computer version of RF?! Awww.... FS:FPS BETTER BE WORTH IT!! Actually I have no doubt.. FS:FPS will rock. Any dates made for a beta release or am I being premature?
