Post Xaphod's Minbari station -project

Xaphod:
"Now starting on the Mimbari Orbital Platforms... any reference pictures anyone can find would be well appreciated. Once I've got that done, I'm going to start on the larger Mimbari Station, which I also don't have many pictures of."

The link at the top in Doc's post is for the Mimbari space station, rather than the orbital platform... The space station is to be approx 1.5 - 2km I think, but I'm not sure about the orbital platform. My brain thinks about 700m-1.2km, but someone correct me if they know better.

As for now, here's a wip.. It ain't close to finished, there's too many polys and the middle bit isn't attached to the ring, but here ya go.

not sure if that was (a) a compliment - "aww thanks *blush*"
or (b) an insult - "*waaaah" "

Unsure.. around 1200-1500 I think, but that's triangles - it hasn't been optimised yet, and most of it can be made into quads. I'm really not too sure how far to go because noone's really sure how big the platform's going to be.

1km wide?

=-o 1 km? Then I guess it doesn't have to be perfect looking. What kind of weaponry does it have, if any?

White once said you never know if Skullar MEANS what he sez or not.
This time, it was a compliment.

Thanks skullar

and snipes, well.. I have no idea.. all I know is the pictures from the ITF site.. and they don't say anything really. Maybe the "spikes" at the side are beam turrets? Maybe the yellow thing in the middle is one beam turret and the whole thing turns like a Mjolynir(sp?). Or maybe all those little dots around the edge are turrets? Maybe all of the above?

I'm guessing that the "spikes" are beam emitters like on the Sharlin.

that's what I thought, but it'd give the station quite a lot of blind spots.. maybe that's why they're deployed in groups like in the pic.

They are probably fairly defenseless against fighters. They are outposts after all....and unmovable targets are sitting ducks no matter how much weaponry they have.
