It was inevitable

I neary ran out of questions, but since I must...

Is it possible to have some background info on the Charon? Who made it? (RNI? Sahr?) What was it's original intentions, did it remain that way? Info on how the new Knossos would work? anything?

Posted by IceFire on 04-30-2001 03:43 AM:

Good question. It was never really explained how a Knossos worked (the rotating parts must be some kind of giant super magnet).

Charon itself was the largest project since the creation of the Colossus and it was spured on to create a new symbol of achievement for the Alliance and to provide hundreds of thousands of jobs for people who were unemployed and otherwise displaced after the NTF Rebellion and the second Shivan encounter.

The Charon was contracted, like the Colossus, by numerous companies and corporations, each lending its services to the creation of the ultimate goal.

Political unrest came from the Vasudans who were slightly unhappy with the prospect of the Terrans rejoining with their homeworld when theirs had been reduced to a dead world (the majority of the Vasudan population had relocated to more stable, although dead, planets in the Vasuda system, and nearby systems like Aldebarran and Deneb).

Nevertheless, the Charon is meant to be the center of trade for the Alliance once the portal opens and it will benefit all. The Charon will affect the destiny of the Alliance and will decide what the future will hold.

heres my thoery on how the knossos works;

A subspace jump node is a vortex. the vortex has to be spinning at a certain speed in order to be stable enought to travel in, like a wirlpool. if its not spining fast enough, any ship attempting transit would be crushed in the turbulance. the knossos and the charons spinning elements could be attached to the fabric of subspace and provide energy to help stabalize or add speed to this spin. once it is up to speed, it will then be stable for ships.

I had a feeling that would happen. It's about time the vasudans stood up for what was coming to them.

You see, Snipes? As much as we nag you about your posting proliferation, you shouldn't stop. This has to be the biggest piece of info we've gotten from BWO since finding out that there would be a return to Earth!

Wow, I am useful.

Will the Vasudans play a real role in this campaign? Will we get to fly wih them?

I want to see this campaign told from a Vasudan p.o.v. and have them be exchanged with the Terrans.

Hehehe - I was thinking the exact same thing, only I wasn't sure about wanting BWO to be from a Vasudan POV - maybe some other campaign.

Great minds and all that, right?

No, you play Commander Aidan Mallory...definately human.

Posted by IceFire on 05-01-2001 08:10 PM:

Heh...you guys think I gave you info. I gave you logical extrapolation.

The Vasudans play a part in BWO. As far as im concerned, on a symolistic level, the Vasudans fate is, in the grand scheme of things, tied to the Terrans. Thats not the main motivation for having them in the campaign, but they are there and they are important.

Heh, Sol will try to kill the Vasudans!

Nonono... the Vasudans are trying to kill Sol!

Posted by sandwich on 05-03-2001 11:02 AM:

You're both wrong - it's the Shivans that are trying to kill us all!!!

Now see what we're missing? The above post would have been perfectly complemented by this smiley:

Deep end!

Posted by Kellan on 05-04-2001 10:03 PM:

Since BWO is an elite squadron rather than a Terran or Vasudan standard squadron, the best pilots in the Alliance have been selected for it, regardless of species/race/age/height/weight/attractiveness/sexual preference/odour/etc.

Don't be getting any ideas from that list now...I refuse to have the missions dominated by pilots bitching at each other that though they can watch each other's backs really well, they stink...

Hopefully I'll get off my lazy arse sometime soon, and you'll see some chacrater profiles and all sorts. In fact, I wrote a bunch of stuff today to liven up the website a little. It's looking good...and I have the plans for the BWO demo laid out now.
