beam cannons
ok i need to know if there is anyway to limit the range on the targeting laser because its just so much fun shooting up stuff with a true beam cannon but with infinte ranger it means used against cap ships its a bit unfair although i put the damge at 1 so it would take alot of time to seriously hurt anything hell its hard huritn fighters with it at one with combined with normal primary - one wiht a sim beam looks quite good along side it - anyway with the mixture its quite effective - knocks enemy fighters out of the way if nothing else
so come on someone here must know how to limit its range
idiot
It can... but it's math...
I believe you have to multiply the speed by the lifetime and thats how long the beam is...
try fooling around with it.
i thought beam speed was infinate? oh well i shall try messing with the speed and life values see if it makes any difference
Actually the beam itself cannot be made to a shorter length. There is in the table files the ability to make a weapon not be fired by the AI if before a certain point, and the scope of a beam can become extremely narrow at a certain distance, but it still exists.
Fortunately, AI use of beams don't show this problem, neither does dogfighting or close range capital ship support.
It can be a fatal problem when in the distance against a huge capital ship.

so in other word beam cannon under your control will be able to shoot at anything no matter how far
oh well nevermind
do i assume that means it cant be done?
